Provide improvements to the Village of Flossmoor's storm sewer infrastructure to reduce roadway and residential flooding along Berry Lane in Flossmoor, Illinois
- The project includes construction of 865 feet of 48-inch, 1,248 feet of 54-inch, and 500 feet of 60-inch concrete storm sewer; 14 manholes, and 18 storm catch basins along Berry Lane, Bob O'Link Road, Oakmont Avenue, and Maryland Avenue - where it will connect with an existing storm sewer under Sterling Avenue. It will also include the option to replace the existing pavement on Berry Lane with 30,580 square feet of permeable interlocking concrete pavers. This project is a part of the Cook County Environmental Infrastructure 219 project and has been allocated $1,500,000 of federal funding.
- The project is authorized under Section 219 of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) 1992, as amended by Section 504 of WRDA 1996, Section 502 of WRDA 1999, and by Section 108 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2001. Section 219, as amended, allows the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide planning, design, and construction assistance for carrying out water-related environmental infrastructure projects in select areas. The project under this authority are cost shared 75% federal and 25% nonfederal.
- The nonfederal sponsor, the Village of Flossmoor, provided the 25% cash match of $491,666. In addition, the Village provided $1,464,051 to exercise all remaining options. The contract was awarded to Airy's, Inc. of Joliet, Illinois for $2,915,724 (including options). Field construction started in April 2022.
